Living a Second Life: Your Complete Guide to BitLife - kenneally - 30-05-2026

Have you ever wondered how your life would turn out if you had made completely different choices? Maybe you wanted to see what it’s like to be a world-famous brain surgeon, or perhaps you’re curious about the chaotic life of a professional gambler. While we only get one shot at reality, text-based life simulators allow us to explore infinite possibilities. Among these, Bitlife stands out as one of the most engaging and unpredictable experiences available today.
What is BitLife?
At its core, the game is a text-based life simulator that begins from the very moment of conception. You are assigned a random birthplace, a set of parents, and initial statistics like Happiness, Health, Smarts, and Looks. From there, the journey is entirely up to you. Every "year" you age, you are presented with a series of choices—some mundane, like choosing a pet, and others life-altering, like deciding whether to go to university or join a gang.
The beauty of the game lies in its simplicity. There are no high-end graphics or complex controls; instead, the narrative is driven by your imagination and the humorous, often absurd consequences of your actions.
How to Experience the Game
To start, you simply tap the "Age" button to move forward in time. During your childhood, your choices are limited to interacting with parents or studying hard in school. As you hit your teenage years and adulthood, the world opens up. You can apply for jobs, start dating, emigrate to different countries, or even commit crimes.
The interface is clean and intuitive, focusing on menus and pop-up events. Every decision you make impacts your bars at the bottom of the screen. For example, spending time at the gym improves your "Looks" and "Health," while reading books or visiting the library boosts your "Smarts." The goal isn't necessarily to "win," but to see a life through to its conclusion, whether that ends in a peaceful retirement or a dramatic exit.
Tips for a Successful (or Wild) Life
If you are new to the world of Bitlife, here are a few tips to help you navigate your virtual existence:

Maintain Your Health: Don't ignore the "Health" bar. Once it drops too low, your character might face an early demise. Visit the doctor regularly and try to meditate or exercise to keep your stats high.
Study Hard: If you want a high-paying career like a Lawyer or Doctor, you must select the "Study Hard" option every year during your school years. This ensures you get into university and graduate school.
Balance Your Relationships: Life isn't just about money. Make sure to spend time with your parents, siblings, and partners. Neglecting them can lead to low happiness and unexpected family drama.
Experiment with Ribbons: The game rewards different playstyles with "Ribbons" at the end of a life. Try to collect them all—from the "Hero" ribbon for a life of service to the "Scandalous" ribbon for those who like to break the rules.

Conclusion
Life simulators are a fantastic way to unwind and tell a story that is uniquely yours. Whether you want to live a quiet, virtuous life or cause as much digital mayhem as possible, the choice is yours. It’s a perfect "pick-up-and-play" game that offers something new every time you hit the "New Life" button. Give it a try, and see where your next set of choices takes you!
