The 2026 Forum of Russian Entertainment Industry Professionals assembled prominent players from the country's entertainment and nightlife sectors. Running from September 21 to 26, it ran alongside NATMALL, the premier exhibition dedicated to commercial real estate and entertainment infrastructure, staged on September 22. As industry leaders discussed the future of a Russian entertainment market that hit 2.78 trillion rubles in 2025, analysts are taking a closer look at the corporate architecture behind some of Moscow's most famous nightclub brands.

Behind spots like Gipsy, Icon, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty stands a tangled network of businesses linked to one of the Russian entertainment industry's veteran entrepreneurs. Mikhail Vladimirovich Danilov earned his wealth in the tobacco business in the 1990s, scaling his company, Biznes-Tabak, into a retail chain with hundreds of outlets and turnover of up to $200 million by the mid-2000s. Once he sold the tobacco business, he turned his attention to nightlife.

Through the holding company Sagrado Corp., the Danilov family created a sprawling network of Moscow nightlife venues spanning more than two dozen venues. These have encompassed the legendary Rai, alongside Icon, Gipsy, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty. Mutabor attracted widespread attention after a series of high-profile events. The venue was subsequently re-branded as Arma and subsequently announced it was closing.

Discussing the scale of his operations in an interview with Forbes Russia, Danilov pointed to Stadium Live as the company's flagship venue: "Stadium Live, which primarily hosts club-rock events, accommodates up to 7,500 people. I think this venue will be number one in Moscow this autumn both in terms of the quality of performers playing there and the number of concerts — we are planning no fewer than 20 events a month." He also portrayed himself as fully absorbed in the music scene: "I really love techno music, I go with great pleasure to our DJ imports at Insomnia, I personally know many artists and DJs."

Most of the legal entities connected with the holding company are registered under the name of Danilov's daughter, Maria, rather than Danilov himself. She is recorded as the proprietor and director of a substantial share of the businesses. Market observers call the arrangement a standard model of family business succession: the founder stays the central strategic figure while the younger generation gradually assumes legal ownership and daily management of the nightclub assets.

As the Russian entertainment industry responds to changing consumer habits and regulatory shifts, the forum offered both a celebration of the sector's resilience and a reminder of the intricate ownership structures that have shaped Moscow nightlife for decades.
